I want to live in a world where each of the women do not have to be concerned about the type of clothes they wear. It is not fair that WE are the ones who have to watch how we dress which later result to horrible situations men put us in.This sexist society has created the idea that women are to blame for the cruel situations that men themselves put on us. Many men believe they have power over women.

Here I bring the idea of feminism. Yes, I am a feminist, but that does not mean that I am against men. Not at all, both genders are equally important. Still, the idea is normalized in our society that men slur and tell us unnecessary comments that are not  right. We live in a world where there are many men who are very selfish. They should support those women who have the will and courage to be able to talk about their stories and support each other instead of saying that women make things up and all they do is bring men down. Yes, there are cases where women, among themselves, do not support each other and that is something that has to change NOW. If we want men to support us and respect us, it must be done between US first. As artist Zendaya said, "I think women are very powerful together and I think we are more powerful together than apart."

As a woman raised in Puerto Rico I am accustomed to hearing on the news about thousands of women who have been raped or murdered. Our society is no longer astonished when they hear news like this and many women have not been able to obtain the justice they deserve because most of the time the judicial system is not fair. Hearing things like this creates this awareness that as a woman I have to protect myself and be more aware of my surroundings. I would love to be able to walk at night alone and not be afraid of something terrible happening to me, but it is something that in this world is currently “normal.” How many women have in their purse some kind of “pepper spray” or product that is specifically made so that women can defend themselves? How many women have applications like “ Nightlight "in order to feel safe anywhere, day or night? I don’t want to continue living in a world where I have to continue spending money  just to feel safe and protected. I'm sure you don't either.

Men don't normally go through these situations. That is why we have to educate the future generation more adequately so that we do not continue creating sexist generations. I am not writing this to degrade men in any way. My intention is that men feel and understand how a woman lives in this sexist society today. Would you like a woman in your family to live like this because of your own gender? Your mother, sister or daughter?

Together, we will change how women live today. Put yourself in our places and reflect on how you can change it. It is not a change that can be made from today to tomorrow, but it is possible. It can only be achieved if we work together, both genders, towards a better life for our next generation.
